Sam Lawrence
Sam designs and produces handmade glass plates, dishes, paperweights, small vessels, pendants, and ornaments in beautiful colors and designs. He blows his glass paperweights, pendants, ornaments and small vessels by hand into interesting shapes and patterns. No two are alike.
Sam decided that he was interested in working in glass in high school during a family trip to Italy. He took a bead making class upon his return and was hooked. He attended art school with the intention of focusing on glass blowing. When he had just started his sophomore year, he sustained a traumatic brain injury in a skateboarding accident. He was in a coma for four weeks and spent many months focusing on his rehabilitation. Through Sam’s persistence and determination, he was able to physically return to his torch where he continues to make beautiful art.
While he has taken some classes in art glass, his craft is largely self-taught. He experiments with color and pattern and strives for an organic feel to the art pieces he makes. His favorite pieces to create are his hand-blown ornaments because they are fun and festive.
