Noreen Baris
Noreen hand knits classic Christmas stockings and personalizes them with a person’s name as a custom order. Her stockings are knit in traditional Christmas colors and depict images of teddy bears, Santas, and snowmen among other themes. Noreen’s personalized stockings enable many families to continue the tradition of welcoming a new member into their family with a unique Christmas stocking.
Noreen first learned to knit when she was about five years old from a woman in her neighborhood, and her first projects were doll blankets. Knitting Christmas stockings started with her own children when they were very little. They wanted a dog and a cat! Friends soon asked her to make stockings for their children, and she got more and more requests over time.
She began making Christmas stockings for the Woman’s Exchanges in the National Federation in the mid 1980’s and has been doing so ever since. Most of her stockings are made of wool and some are made of acrylic yarn. Noreen is knitting Christmas stocking almost year-round with a short 1–2 month break right after Christmas.
