Marcia Anderson

Marcia sews and hand smocks lovely dresses and bubbles for babies and toddlers. Her high quality children’s clothing is classic and traditional.

Marcia comes from a family with a long tradition of sewing and tailoring. Her grandfather was a tailor for the military in the Spanish American War, and her other grandfather was a tailor too. Her mother and grandmother all sewed. Marica began sewing when she was young and helped her mother. She started making some of her own clothes in high school and has been sewing ever since.

She taught herself smocking by following directions in instruction booklets. When her own daughter was a child, Marcia sewed smocked dresses for her daughter and for a store in Charleston, SC. She has taught smocking in various places and is a member of two smocking guilds in Massachusetts. There are different styles of smocking, and she primarily uses “English smocking” in her work. She sews her dresses using the best quality fabric she can find, often fabric made by Liberty of London.
