Carole Chapin

Carole is a weaver and knitter. Her first love is weaving, and she weaves beautiful scarves, shawls, throws, hand towels, table runners, rugs, and placemats in various patterns and colors. Her knit goods include hats, scarves and infinity scarves. Carole says that she weaves and knits because it is fun, and she loves seeing the finished product.

Carole’s love for weaving started at an early age when like many children, she created potholders on a small metal loom and sold them for a quarter to her neighbors. Later in life she took a weaving class and wove on a small table loom, soon realizing that she wanted to do more with the craft. She installed a floor loom in a spare bedroom in her home and has been weaving continuously ever since. She chooses yarn based on the color and suitability for weaving and just starts weaving, letting the designs develop through her creative process.

She uses all kinds of yarn in her knitting, and she particularly likes to knit and weave with cotton. She has been knitting since she was about 8 years old and now knits everything from socks, baby sweaters, fair isle sweaters, scarves, hats, to infinity scarves.

She has been inspired by her heritage. Her Scottish grandmother was a weaver, and her Scottish relatives still raise sheep for wool, spin their own yarn and weave. Her other grandmother taught her to knit and was an accomplished knitter. Carole is an active member in two weavers’ guilds in Massachusetts.
