Betsy Varano

Betsy makes hand painted glass vases with floral motifs. She designs each one as she paints and says that sometimes she surprises herself with the result. Over the years her designs have become more realistic. No two painted vases are alike.

She started painting when her niece asked her to design and paint a box for her wedding to hold the gifts. The box came out beautifully and Betsy was hooked. She moved on to painting glass vases, and she also paints on canvas.

Betsy collects glass vases in all sizes and shapes. She begins by painting the glass with a coat of paint in a beautiful color. Then she paints the floral designs and applies four coats of shellac. She likes to experiment with technique and color, and prefers deeper shades.
