Meet Ceramicist Susan Daughertyy
Susan Daugherty, a former art educator in the Groton Dunstable Regional School District, has found renewed joy in her retirement through creating functional ceramic art. Her work features slab-built pottery pieces—such as dishes, platters, and home accessories—designed to bring beauty and character into everyday living.
Drawing inspiration from nature and vintage design, Susan incorporates organic textures, intricate lace patterns, and whimsical stamped impressions into her ceramics. She often discovers inspiration in antique markets, where she seeks out handmade doilies and lace to use as texture tools. Ever curious, she has even been known to knock on a stranger’s door to request a few interesting leaves or flowers for her creative process.
Susan finds great satisfaction in transforming a simple slab of clay into a piece that is both beautiful and functional—perfect for holding small treasures, arranging flowers, or serving as the centerpiece of a table.
