Meet Bob Seaman of "Bob's Birds"

Bob Seaman has dedicated his life to creativity, particularly in drawing and painting. Dedham Exchange customer favorites are his bird paintings, his charming “alphabet letter cards” that can be used for framing or for correspondence, and an adult coloring book reflecting his talents. Though he started doodling as a toddler, it wasn't until he was 60, after careers in the U.S. Army and real estate, that he pursued his passion for art professionally. Known for his intricate "doodles," Bob creates daily sketches that blend pencil, ink, and watercolors.

Bob’s work gained further recognition during the COVID-19 pandemic when he began sharing his doodle art to lift spirits amid lockdowns. To this day, he is still drawing a "doodle" a day, now numbering over 1,500! He emailed his daughter, Robin Hayes, a picture he drew, and she shared these "doodles" on Facebook. The response was so great that she started an Etsy shop. Because the world was having a tough time during the pandemic and the doodles were bringing joy to people, they decided that 50% of proceeds would go to a different charity each month. They have donated just shy of $16,000 to local charities including Hundred Nights Shelter, Project Home, and Amazing Grace Animal Sanctuary.

A recipient of the Ruth and James Ewing Arts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018, Bob continues to draw inspiration from various sources, creating both realistic and abstract pieces. His work has been featured in magazines and greeting cards, and his daily doodles have provided a vital connection with loved ones during challenging times. Bob remains committed to his art, aiming to spread joy and positivity through his drawings.
