Elizabeth Varano is our featured artist this April!
Elizabeth is a talented artist who creates hand-painted glass vases adorned with intricate floral motifs. Each vase is a unique work of art, with designs that evolve organically as she paints. Elizabeth finds joy in the unexpected results her creative process often yields. Over time, her artistry has become more refined, with her floral designs growing increasingly realistic, ensuring that no two vases are alike.
Her artistic journey began when her niece requested a custom-designed box for her wedding to hold gifts. The box turned out beautifully, and Elizabeth was instantly hooked on the creative process. This led her to explore painting on glass vases, as well as on canvas.
An avid collector of glass vases in all shapes and sizes, Elizabeth starts each project by applying a vibrant base coat of paint. From there, she hand-paints each vase with delicate, detailed floral designs, finishing with four layers of shellac for durability and a polished finish. Elizabeth enjoys experimenting with different techniques and color palettes, often gravitating toward deeper, richer tones to bring her pieces to life.
